Decades after the Rage Virus devastated the country, a group of survivors live on a small island connected to the mainland by a single barricaded causeway. Jamie (Taylor-Johnson) takes his 12-year-old son Spike (Alfie Williams) with him to the mainland to teach him how to kill the infected but when Spike hears rumours of a doctor living on the mainland, he breaks all the rules of his community to find him in the hope that he can help Isla (Comer), his sick mother, to recover.
