A Very Long Engagement (Subtitled) (2004)

Jean-Pierre Jeunet co-writes and directs this French war drama starring Audrey Tautou and Gaspard Ulliel. As the First World War draws to an end, a young French woman's greatest fight is about to begin. Mathilde (Tautou) has received word that her fiancé Manech (Ulliel) is one of five wounded soldiers who have been court-martialled and pushed out into no man's land between the French and German trenches - and almost certain death. Unwilling to accept that her beloved Manech is lost to her forever, Mathilde embarks on an extraordinary journey to discover the fate of her lover. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards.
