Ellen Burstyn stars as the eponymous widow in this romantic drama directed by Martin Scorsese. After her husband is killed in a traffic accident, Alice leaves her home in Socorro, New Mexico and heads west with her son Tommy (Alfred Lutter), intending to return to her home town of Monterey in California and follow her dream of becoming a singer. In order to reach Monterey, Alice is forced to stop in Arizona and work for the money they need to continue their journey.
