Jack Nicholson and Candice Bergen star in this dark comedy drama from director Mike Nichols. Jonathan (Nicholson) and Sandy (Art Garfunkel) find their sexual attitudes and aptitudes changing as they move through life from college to middle age. When they share a room as students, Jonathan gives Sandy tips on women, only to conduct an affair with Sandy's girlfriend Susan (Bergen) behind his back.
Later, after Sandy and Susan are married, Jonathan conducts a long affair with Bobbie (Ann-Margret) and faces a difficult decision after she attempts suicide. The cast also includes Rita Moreno, Cynthia O'Neal and Carol Kane.
