Extended version of Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning sci-fi film. A spate of unprecedented UFO sightings and experiences occur around the world, affecting thousands of people, but the government insists nothing is going on. Blue collar worker Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) experiences his own close encounter with an alien spacecraft when he is sent out to investigate a mysterious power outage in Indiana.
