Joseph Losey directs this 1960s psychological drama set in Venice. Welsh novelist Tyvian Jones (Stanley Baker) falls in love with scheming, gold-digging Frenchwoman Eve (Jeanne Moreau). Realising that Eve will never love him, Tyvian marries his fiancée Francesca (Virna Lisi), who loses her will to live when she discovers her husband's true feelings.
