Marine Corporal Allison (Robert Mitchum) is ship-wrecked on a Pacific island during World War II. The only other person on the island is a nun, Sister Angela (Deborah Kerr), who is also stranded after the vicar of the island died. The pure nun and the rough-and-ready soldier are totally at odds with each other, but they gradually fall in love.
