Tatiana Papamoschou stars as the eponymous character in this Greek tragedy directed by Michael Cacoyannis. After his brother Menelaus (Kostas Karras)'s wife Helen runs away to Troy with Paris, Agamemnon (Kostas Kazakos) gathers his forces to retrieve her. However, when Agamemnon angers the goddess Artemis, he must atone by sacrificing his daughter Iphigenia.
He tells his wife Clytemnestra (Irene Papas) that Iphigenia is to be married to the warrior Achilles (Panos Mihalopoulos) and thus Iphigenia travels to meet her father, who fears there is no way to save his daughter from the terrible fate that awaits her.
