Jeremiah Johnson (1972)

Robert Redford stars in the title role of this US Western directed by Sydney Pollack. Mexican War veteran Jeremiah Johnson turns his back on civilisation in the mid-1800s to learn a new way of survival in the Rocky Mountains. He soon becomes part of the wildlife and is mentored by a fellow mountain man named Chris Lapp aka Bear Claw (Will Geer) in the art of survival in the harsh wilderness. His new lifestyle brings many rewards, including new acquaintances, and the peaceful existence he has longed for, until he becomes embroiled in a conflict with a hostile tribe of Native Americans who start to stir up trouble.
