Bernardo Bertolucci directs this drama starring Marlon Brando as Paul, a middle-aged American widower who has become lost since his wife's suicide. When he meets Jeanne (Maria Schneider) in Paris, the two embark on an anonymous affair sharing nothing but their mutual attraction and need for closeness.
