Two New York Divorce attorneys Daniel Rafferty - played by Pierce Brosnan - and Audrey Woods - played by Julianne Moore - are frequently competing against one another. She is constantly stressed in her work while he is laid-back and relaxed, but despite this they somehow end up in a relationship which leads to marriage in Ireland. They are hired by a celebrity couple whose own marriage is on the rocks and the divorce settlement hinges on an Irish castle which both clients want for themselves. Audrey and Daniel travel to the castle in an attempt to sort things out but find a growing attraction between one another despite everything. After a particularly romantic Irish festival they wake up married and are faced with working out how this catastrophe could affect their future dealings with divorce cases as man and wife.
