Paul Schrader directs this biographical drama which explores the life, work and death of the Japanese writer Yukio Mishima and includes dramatisations of segments from three of his novels. As he grows from a young boy to become one of Japan's most successful writers, Mishima (Ken Ogata) mourns Japan's lost traditions. After leading a failed coup, he commits ritualistic suicide on 25th November 1970.

The cast also includes Kenji Sawada, Mashayuki Shionya and Junkichi Orimoto.
