Mia Goth co-writes and stars in this horror prequel to 'X' (2022). In 1918, Pearl (Goth) dreams of becoming a movie star so she can escape life on her parents' farm in rural Texas. When she learns of a travelling dance troupe auditioning chorus girls in a nearby town, Pearl seizes the opportunity to escape her abusive mother (Tandi Wright) and disabled father (Matthew Sunderland), and is encouraged to pursue her dream by a young movie theatre projectionist (David Corenswet).
