John Wayne stars in this Western directed by Howard Hawks. During the American Civil War, Union Colonel Cord McNally (Wayne) is first captured by and then turns the tables on Confederate Captain Pierre Cordova (Jorge Rivero) and Sergeant Tuscarora Phillips (Chris Mitchum). When the war ends McNally returns to Texas where he learns that an unscrupulous sheriff is conducting a reign of terror in the town of Rio Lobo.
Together with Cordova and Phillips, McNally travels to Rio Lobo to see justice done and soon discovers that he has a bitter history with the men involved. The cast also includes Jennifer O'Neill, Victor French and Mike Henry.
