Collection of four Shaw Brothers' martial arts action features directed by Chang Cheh. In 'Five Shaolin Masters' (1974), after Qing soldiers destroy the Shaolin temple, five survivors escape and swear vengeance. As they train hard to improve their skills before they must face their enemy again, they also seek to identify the traitor who betrayed them to the Qing forces.

The prequel, 'Shaolin Temple' (1976), sees new students undergoing training in Shaolin methods while elsewhere, the Qing scheme to destroy them. As a traitor inside the temple begins working with the Qing, thousands of Qing forces arrive to massacre those inside the temple. In 'The Five Venoms' (1978), Yang Tieh (Chiang Sheng) is sent on a mission by his dying master to locate five of his former students and ascertain whether they are using their skills for good or evil.

The Centipede (Lu Feng), The Snake (Wai Pak), The Scorpion (Sun Chien), The Lizard (Philip Kwok) and The Toad (Lo Mang) are each an expert in their own lethal combat style and Yang Tieh must decide who can be trusted to restore the reputation of their clan and who has betrayed its teachings. Finally, 'Crippled Avengers' (1978) sees Hu Ah-kue (Sun Chien), Chen Shuen (Philip Kwok), Wang Yi (Chiang Sheng) and Wei Jia-jie (Lo Mang) travel in search of Master Li Jing Ying (Ching Miao), hoping that he can train them so that they will be able to defeat the cruel and tyrannical Black Tiger Dao Tian-du (Chen Kuan-Tai) and his son Dao Chang (Lu Feng).
