When her parents die in a fire, she is sent to live with her grandmother June (Sigourney Weaver) who takes her in but harbours many secrets of her own.
As she gets older, Alice (Alycia Debnam-Carey) learns of the refuge for abused women run by her grandmother and begins to understand the sacrifices she has made for these women in her care.
