Japanese crime action drama co-written and directed by Kinji Fukasaku which follows three brothers as they attempt to rise above their impoverished beginnings in very different ways. Kuroki (Rentarô Mikuni), the eldest, leaves home and joins the yakuza. His brother Jirô (Ken Takakura) follows five years later after betraying their family and embarking on a life of petty crime, leaving the youngest brother Sabu (Kin'ya Kitaôji) to care for their mother.
After her death, their lives become entangled once again when Jirô convinces Sabu to join him in executing a daring heist but their bonds of brotherhood may be broken forever when betrayal and brutal violence follow. The cast also includes Sanae Nakahara, Shinjirô Ebara and Hiroko Shima.
